J&C House Sushi
Earlier this summer, a close friend and I were out and about on our way to get some dinner and wanted to try out something new. We both are avid consumers of Sushi, particularly Sashimi, but we didn’t want to drive too far from her home in Herriman. We decided on a small little restaurant that has teased my interest for many years but this would be my first time going to J&C House.
Well, without going too far into all the wild details, this first visit was enough to firmly plant J&C House (aka SushiJ) as my favorite restaurant in the Salt Lake Valley. Steven, the owner, has an impeccable understanding of sushi and flavor profiling, sake pairing, and his chef’s are artists in every presentation they concoct.
I’ve never been to an eatery that is more passionate and knowledgable about their product, and the inclusive nature of everyone in the store lends even more to the warmth the spot provides.
Becoming a professional food photographer
One day after a hike with my Fujifilm XT-4 to shoot some of the fall leaves, I had a particularly exquisite presentation of Sushi on a fantastic platter than was too beautiful not to photograph. I had posted the photos onto the J&C House Facebook page in addition to a very favorable review, and a few days later the owner Steven reached out to me, asking to do some work for him with my photography skills.
I was ecstatic to say the least! This would be my first ever “real” shot at professional food photography, and I couldn’t have asked for a better client. Steven and his staff were all excellent to work with and provided everything I could ask for, and were even kind enough to provide a discounted meal for my efforts.
Working with local businesses is something I have take great pride in, and this gave me a great opportunity to give back to people who are some of the best culinary artists I know. I look forward to working more with Steven and J&C House in the future, and please, go get yourself a dish there!
