Blue Farmhouse Soaps
The Blue Farmhouse logo
Communicating Handcrafted passion
As the new year range itself in and I took to creating a more diverse and professional freelance portfolio, I was honored to have the opportunity to work with a former colleague and good friend Teri Harman, who has built one of the most consistently incredible lifestyles of good work ethic I have ever seen. Teri approached me with a new project she has been working on for quite some time and is finally pushing it out to the public; A small, farmer’s market-style soap making business focused on providing high quality ingredients with an all natural, hand-crafted emphasis.
The brand identity is focused on the post-war farmer’s aesthetic of the early 1950’s, where hard work and family values were held at the forefront of the social foundation. It was a fun and creative process to jump into the project which is so very different from the majority of my own work, an exciting exercise in exploring different styles.
I began with a set of hand-drawn modernist logos reminiscent of the atomic age, but both were perhaps too free-feeling and without the rigidity of farmhouse work. Moving to a more heavily typeface focused style, I took inspiration from various popular logos from the time and incorporated the same color palette as Teri’s home, her “Blue Farmhouse” was beginning to come to life.
Once the logo typeface was created, I took inspiration from brands like Tillamook and Pepperidge Farm and created a small model of Teri’s actual home, who’s yellow painted door and baby blue exterior melded perfectly into a strong brand standard for highlights and body colors. Dropping the dark brown shingles to a dark blue shade of the pantone blue I had matched to the home brought the logo together and gave us our much needed contrast. An additional set of colors are also available for other design properties should the need arise, evoking the green of freshly grown cucumbers and spinach, and a soft pink reminiscent of peonies or light rose.
All colors provided in the Brand Standard include tints and shades to provide clarity.
